Power of Words
When God made the heavens and the earth, he did not wave a magic wand nor did he use his hands. He spoke….and the worlds came to be.
However when it came to man He formed us from the dust and breathed into our nostrils the breath of life. We became living speaking beings.
God has also given us the same ability to use words to create. We are created in the image of God. No other animal on earth can use words to create or destroy.
By our words we build and by our words we also destroy. The power of life and death is in the tongue.
“Stick and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me“ is a common idiom that people use….however this is a lie. Words do hurt.
Therefore we need to be careful what we say. Gossip is dangerous.
Statements like…I’m dying to get there….(What has death got to do with the destination?)…I’m so silly…..I could never do that…I am not good enough…I am dead meat… are loaded with power.
Of course foul language and curse words are in the list.
There is power when a group of people speak one lip and speech. Impossible feats can be accomplished.
When the tower of Babel was being built, God had to mix up the language, because men spoke one language. He did not send lightning to destroy the tower. He just confused their language and that was the end of the story of the tower.
Our words control our lives. Our words order our life.
So the question is ..what words do we have controlling our life? The Word of God or our own word? What do we say to ourselves continually day in and day out? What do we speak to others? What words do we speak to our situations and circumstances?
